Boon Lott’s Sanctuary, Thailand

Based in Sukhothai, Northern Thailand, Boon Lott (Thai for ‘survivor’) was named after a baby elephant that animal lover Katherine Connor gave up her travels to help nurture this baby elephant and stop it being sold to an animal tourist show. This story inspired Katherine to start up an elephant sanctuary that would rescue and rehabilitate elephants, and most importantly, stop them from being sold to animal shows. Boon Lott’s Sanctuary is a secluded and peaceful place for you and partner to interact with these magnificent animals.

Chengdu Moonbear Rescue Centre, China

After years of campaigning, in 2000 the Chengdu Moonbear Rescue Centre was established by Jill Robinson, who came to an agreement with the Chinese authorities that they would release 500 bears from bile farms, where their bile would be used for traditional Chinese remedies. Bears are taken here to receive veterinary care, then they are released into the sanctuary where they can live happily and safely. Open days are put on twice a month, and visitors can get up-close to the bears thanks to the zone-layout of the sanctuary. Explore China honeymoons.
