Our Honeymoon Specialist Neil was fortunate enough to join a FAM trip to Mauritius in September with Mauritius Tourist Board and British Airways. It was a busy 7 days in Mauritius for Neil where he visited 20 luxurious hotels throughout the country to help him better promote Mauritius honeymoons.

Neil departed London Gatwick with a group of agents from all over the country to experience all the wonders Mauritius has to offer its guests. The group flew with British Airways and were upgraded to Business Class on the outbound flight. Upon landing into Mauritius, the group were greeted with refreshments and cold towels before heading to their first hotel, Sofitel So Mauritius for a site inspection and brunch.

The group then enjoyed a friendly welcome at Preskil Beach during a beach BBQ with Mauritius Tourism. Neil and the rest of the FAM group then headed to their accommodation for the evening, Heritage le Telfair where they explored what the hotel has to offer before taking part in a group cocktail making class at Cavendish. After a busy first day, they had a delicious dinner with the hotel management before an early night ready for the next fun-filled day in Mauritius.

The group were up early for breakfast before heading to Dinarobin hotel to explore the beautiful resort and the incredible white beach surrounding the resort. Neil and the rest of the group enjoyed a delicious lunch at St Regis Hotel before heading to their accommodation for the night at Outrigger Resort where the group enjoyed some brief downtime to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Mauritius and a hosted dinner by resort management.

It was another early start for the group during their Mauritius holiday as they headed over to Shanti Maurice to enjoy breakfast and site inspection before heading off to visit LUX* Le Morne for a quick inspection of the rooms and facilities. In the afternoon it was off to Maradiva Resort where they enjoyed lunch, a cookery class where Neil and the group learned how to cook traditional Mauritian foods before a hosted dinner and overnight stay.

We asked Neil for his top tips for a Mauritius honeymoon…

Where to stay in Mauritius?

There are so many hotels to pick from for your Mauritius honeymoon and each hotel offers something different. I have selected a few of my favourite hotels depending on your honeymoon style, but I am happy to discuss which hotel will suit you best if you give me a call.

St Regis is amazing, I know it sounds cheesy but it’s like one of the X Factor judges houses – very traditional, but very luxurious. I would recommend St Regis for adults looking to enjoy an intimate and romantic honeymoon in a boutique hotel. Constance le Prince really exudes luxury and is set on an incredible stretch of beach. I recommend a romantic dinner at their floating restaurant and a couples spa treatment at their spa, one of the biggest in Mauritius.

Maritim is perfect for younger couples or if you are honeymooning with a young child. It has a really fun atmosphere as it is a larger resort with lots to do. I really liked the beautiful beach with VIP areas for adults and beach shacks for restaurants. Dinarobin boasts one of the best beaches on the island and is definitely one of my personal favourites for your Mauritius honeymoon. The beach is pure white sand and the hotel is very luxurious with deep mahogany woods throughout. I definitely recommend upgrading to the Club room types, especially for honeymooners as you will receive a range of extras including complimentary sandwiches, canapés, pastries, cocktails & selected drinks throughout the day. Dinarobin also includes all water sports, so if you love your water activities, Dinarobin is definitely the place for you.

Must Do’s:

Mauritius is the ideal location for your beach honeymoon and one of my must-do’s while you are in Mauritius is visit the private island Ile Aux Cerfs, it is perfect for a relaxing day and soaking up the sun on the beautiful stretch of beach. It is a very peaceful location with a lagoon so you can walk out and the water is not above your knees. There is also a golf course on the island if you fancy a round of golf or two.

I would also recommend visiting Grande Baie as that is where a lot of the excursions start from. It is a great location to discover traditional Mauritius with markets, restaurants and bars outside of the hotels in the North of the island. It is perfect if you are staying in the North West of the island.

You can’t leave Mauritius without doing…

You have to try the local rum, there are so many different varieties. My favourite was definitely the caramel rum.

Travel Tips:

  • Couples who are looking for more intimacy and would prefer to keep to the hotel for a relaxing break, stay on the East or the West of the island where the hotels are more sparse.
  • If you are looking to be able to leave the hotel and have a wander nearby to local bars and restaurants, the North of the island is the perfect location for this.
  • If you are looking to travel to Mauritius for your honeymoon in winter, just be careful of the strong trade winds as it can sometimes be cooler and windy.
  • I would definitely recommend a stop-over in Dubai on the way home from Mauritius to break up the journey, even if you lay-over in Dubai for a few hours, it will give you a chance to do some post-wedding duty free shopping at Dubai airport.
