Honeymoon Dreams teams up with Just A Drop Charity

Honeymoon Dreams is delighted to work with Just A Drop charity, an international water aid charity whose goal is to provide clean and safe water to some of the poorest communities in over 30 countries worldwide.

For every honeymoon booking that is sold, Honeymoon Dreams will be donating £2 to Just A Drop, which will help aid Ikalaasa Primary School in Kenya. Read below to learn more about the project that we are supporting.

Every day, children are asked to bring water with them to school, water which is only available an hour’s walk away and which is not safe or clean, which has a massive impact on their lives:

  • Unsafe water causes diseases, leading to high rates of children missing school as they are ill
  • Valuable school time is missed as children fetch the water
  • Hygiene is poor, as water is not available for things we take for granted, like hand washing
  • The act of collecting water can be dangerous: with threat of attack from animals and people.

Just a Drop offers a very simple and sustainable solution. We will provide a water tank for the school to provide year round safe and clean water, a tank, which harvests water from the school roof during the two Kenyan rainy seasons. We will also provide 3 hand washing stations and sanitation and hygiene education on how best to use the water. This will make a profound difference to the school community. Where we have previously constructed water tanks, we now see a prosperous school, with bright, proud students and determined teachers.

The benefits of the school water tank will be:

  • Children are healthier – they will no longer have to drink unclean and unsafe water
  • As they are healthier, they will be able to spend more time at school
  • Attendance is also improved as they will no longer have to travel long distances to collect water
  • Conditions in the school are improved, with increased sanitation and hygiene
  • Children are better able to concentrate on their lessons, as they are hydrated and fed. The tank will last for a minimum of 30 years, so many more pupils will also benefit well into the future.
