OVERVIEW

Ibiza is one of the three Balearic Islands, in the Mediterranean Sea off the East coast of Spain. You can be there in a matter of hours from anywhere in Europe, but it has a unique and bohemian atmosphere unlike anywhere else, making it an ideal mini-moon or honeymoon destination.

With a rich and varied history, the pace of life on this island paradise today is laid-back. This makes it a perfect getaway for romantic couples who want to escape the pressures of their busy lives and switch off completely from the outside world. Even though it is the clubbing capital of Europe, this romantic Balearic beauty has so much to offer, with so much to see and do.

Famous for dazzling sunsets and wild nightlife scene, you may not know that the White Isle is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the fortified old Ibiza town, Dalt Vila, perched on a small mountain next to the sea and overlooking the town, you can wander through winding narrowed lanes, cobbled streets and picturesque squares, visit an Archaeological Museum, and even share a romantic candlelit dinner under the stars in a medieval castle. Not forgetting to enjoy the stunning views of Formentera when strolling through.

Couples visiting Ibiza are sure to want to spend plenty of time by the beach, perhaps staying in one of the island’s luxury beach resorts. Therefore, you would be happy to know that Ibiza is home to over 80 stunning and tranquil golden sand beaches in the world. Head to the secluded coves of Cala Xarraca, stroll together along the beautiful beach of the North Eastern point, Agua Blanca or catch the world famous sunsets on the west coast of Ibiza, the San Antonio strip. Other beaches not to be missed are Cala Benirrás where every Sunday is given over to hippie drummers and Talamanca, closet to the Ibiza town, lined with restaurants and beach bars. To dance the night away and just lounge while the DJ plays top music, opt for Las Salinas or the party paradise, Playa d’en Bossa, boasting the longest beach on the island dotted around with beach bars, restaurants and a range of water sport activities.

Adventurous couples can hire a car or – for a truly retro touch – a 1960s-style scooter, to discover the island’s quaint hamlets such as Santa Gertrudis and San Miquel, entirely at your own time. In addition, if you want to make the most of your romantic trip and want to escape the bustle of Ibiza then sail out on a boat and stop near the famous Es Vedra rock, where you can snorkel or take a swim in the crystal clear waters. However, for couples looking to just chill-out and explore, enjoy a cocktail near the marina in Ibiza town or visit the various hippy markets selling local artisans and crafts.

The luxury accommodation on the island is exceptional too. Whether you are looking for a boutique hotel or a secluded private villa, all tastes and budgets are catered for. There is an incredible variety of dining options too, with fresh seafood in abundance, straight off the fishing-boats each day, delicious Spanish tapas and traditional pastry treats to tempt you. So raise a glass of Hierbas – a local anise-based liqueur – and toast to your perfect honeymoon.
