There are 3 Centres in Shamwari Game Reserve, all of which you can take part in for a once in a lifetime experience that empowers, engages and educates yourself in the efforts that Shamwari Game Reserve takes to make the conservation of the reserve a wonderful place for the wilderness. Ian Player Rhino Centre, Born Free Big Cat Sanctuary and Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre are the 3 conservation centres at Shamwari Game Reserve.

There are 6 lodges surrounding Shamwari Game Reserve, each offering a unique experience whether it be for couples or families.   • Eagles Crag Lodge

    Situated in a secluded area of the of the Game Reserve, the Eagles Crag Lodge offers breath taking sceneries of the evergreen hills and valley. Each Lodge is designed with glass and stone, which makes the perfect materials for sightseeing from your bed. Each room sleeps 2 adults with air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, electronic safe, international dial telephone, en-suite bathroom, in and outdoors showers, private mini bar, bird spotting scope, a private deck with pool and a Bluetooth radio alarm clock.
  • Long Lee Manor

    Set in an Edwardian style manor house, the Long Lee Manor compromises of 15 rooms featuring air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, electronic safe, patio or balcony, satellite TV, international dial telephone and a private mini bar.
  • Bayethe Tented Lodge

    Set in the rich vegetation of the reserve, surrounding tranquil vistas of green hills and the African bush. Each of the 12 detached tents offer unique amenities. The Bayethe Hills Tent includes a plunge pool, private deck, en-suite bathroom, TV with selected channels, hammock, fireplace and a private mini bar. The Bayethe Luxury Tent features air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite bathroom with shower, hairdryer, electronic safe, international dial telephone, plunge pool, electric blankets and a private mini bar.
  • Lobengula Lodge

    Experience intimacy on your Safari honeymoon in the Lobengula Lodge, a private villa experience designed to give you the feel of a traditional African Kraal. You’ll receive panoramic vistas of the mountains and valleys. Each villa sleeps 2 adults with a king size bed with facilities including air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, electronic safe, en-suite bathroom, a private patio, international dial telephone, in and outdoor showers and a private mini bar.

Facilities

There are plenty of ways to fill your day at Shamwari Game Reserve, that’s if you can part with your luxury room or suite!

There are 2 game drives per day, one during the early morning and one in the evening. Embark on a private tour through this idyllic land, see the birds of prey, spot the big 5 and learn all about Africa’s incredible wilderness – all taken care of by your knowledgeable tour guide!

Looking to relax in the most natural landscapes of Africa? Many of the lodges around the Shamwari Game Reserve feature their own Relaxation Retreats offering personalized treatments, from massages, body scrubs, facials and manicures.

If you’re interested in seeing a specific area or have a certain interest in species of animal, contact your guide who will add your points of interests into your game drives. It’s highly recommended that you bring along binoculars, camera, warm clothing, sunscreen and a hat. Each game drive lasts approximate 3-4 hours with a coffee stop in the morning drive and a sundowner stop on the evening drive.

If you fancy seeing the splendid wilderness by foot, there are guided walking safari’s available. A walking safari tour allows you to take in the absolute beauty of the region, where you can see animal tracks, dung, hiding spots and rare bird spotting. You will also get a great feel of the history surrounding the reserve in this up close and personal experience.

The Born Free Big Cat Rescue and Education Centre’s at Shamwari Game Reserve are in collaboration with the Born Free Foundation and aims to draw attention to the condition of the wild cats confined in impoverished and captive environments throughout the world!

The Wildlife rehabilitation Centre helps rescue, rehabilitate and care for sick, injured and abandoned animals under the care of the veterinary team. You have the opportunity to visit this Centre when staying at Shamwai Game Reserve.

The Ian Player Rhino Awareness Centre is a very special Centre as the African rhino population has suffered major devastation due to poaching, which Ian Player was a huge part in saving.
